Food is Fuel

Food is Fuel

Did you know that the human body uses dietary fat as fuel during workouts? Dietary fat and carbs are both stored within the body to be later be used during exercise. There seems to be a misconception within trending diet fads that cutting out fat completely will improve one’s health when in fact the opposite is true.

Our bodies need dietary fat for fuel. What really matters is the source of those foods. For example, if you’re preparing for a marathon, you wouldn’t eat a big piece of chocolate cake right before but instead maybe oatmeal with nuts, fruit, and some eggs. This is because the choice of food will greatly impact the fuel your body has readily available, directly affecting performance and fatigue levels.

Walnuts are an excellent source of dietary fats, particularly alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is a type of omega-3. Omega-3’s are very important for the body, and contribute to a wide range of health benefits. The fats found in walnuts have even been shown to help lower levels of LDL cholesterol. Walnuts are perfect for exercise because they’re concentrated with healthy fuel for the body!
